Théâtre du chocolat

Born in 1996 the FATEJ has always had as aim to create an atmosphere of theatre experiences and encounters in the domain of theatre for children and young people. It is also an arena for African troupes to come in contact with the rest of the world through our ‘Guest of Honour’ slut which is all about inviting non African countries (who deal in theatre for the young public). The main aim of this is to promote an exchange in artistic ideas and experiences in troupes that is South South, North South and North North.

Again the FATEJ creates a SAFE THEATRE SPACE for the performances in this specific domain in theatre. This at the same time offers the artist an opportunity to connect into the international network. As a result of this many African theatre troupes have toured or are still going round from country to country with performances for the young public, thanks to the FATEJ. In the national territory; the FATEJ is quite dynamic in partnership; working with nursery; primary and secondary schools so as to cultivate a theatre conscious public. Ever since 2004; FATEJ has been labelled an ASSITEJ FESTIVAL by the ASSITEJ International (ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL DE THEATRE POUR L’ENFANCE ET LA JEUNESSE).

FATEJ in itself is organized by the THEATRE DU CHOCOLAT.

Lancé en novembre 1996, le FATEJ a pour but la confrontation des expériences des spectacles de théâtre destinés aux jeunes publics en Afrique. C’est aussi un espace pour la rencontre de l’Afrique et le reste du monde par la formule invité d’honneur : Il s’agit d’inviter des compagnies venues des pays non africains : (qui ont une tradition de théâtre pour jeunes publics), la promotion des échanges artistiques entre les compagnies dans le sens Sud-Sud, Nord-Sud, Nord-Nord, susciter la création des espaces réservés uniquement à la diffusion des spectacles en direction du jeune public, offrir aux créateurs africains un cadre pour assurer l’injection de leurs créations dans le réseau international.

A ce jour, plusieurs compagnies africaines de théâtre jeunes publics ont sillonné ou sillonnent le monde dans le cadre des tournées ou participation à des festivals. D’autres ont été ou sont en coproduction avec les compagnies d’autres continents à partir du FATEJ.

En outre, le FATEJ travaille en partenariat avec certaines écoles, lycées et collèges d’enseignement secondaire pour créer et promouvoir un public averti. Depuis 2004, le FATEJ bénéficie du label ASSITEJ FESTIVAL octroyé par l’Association Internationale de Théâtre pour l’enfance et la Jeunesse (ASSITEJ INTERNATIONAL)
